Carrier Plant in Indianapolis (2/26/17)
Trump says: “US Technologies and Carrier stepped it up and now they’re keeping, actually the number is over 1100 people…,They’re going to spend so much money on renovating this plant. And I said Greg say that number. You know he said 16 million. The minimum number is 16. In my opinion, it’s going to be a lot more than that.” (12/1/16, Indianapolis, IN press conference) link
Fact: The deal only keeps 730 production line jobs and 70 salaried positions. Moreover, 600 people will still be losing their jobs at the plant. The state of Indiana will also give Carrier $7 million in tax incentives. The company has agreed to invest $16 million in the plant, but the investment will be used to replace human workers by automating the plant. United Technologies Chief Executive Greg Hayes told MSNBC “We’re going to make a $16 million investment in that factory in Indianapolis to automate to drive the cost down so that we can continue to be competitive….What that ultimately means is there will be fewer jobs.”link1 link2 video

Trump says: “It’s finally happening – Fiat Chrysler just announced plans to invest $1BILLION in Michigan and Ohio plants, adding 2000 jobs. This after…Ford said last week that it will expand in Michigan and U.S. instead of building a BILLION dollar plant in Mexico. Thank you Ford & Fiat C!” (1/9/17, Twitter @RealDonaldTrump) link link
Fact: “That was has been in the works for more than a year, and had nothing to do with Trump or his policy ideas, [Fiat Chrysler CEO] Marchionne said. ‘It has been part of the discussion going back to 2015 with Dennis Williams and the UAW,’ Marchionne said.” (1/9/17, Detroit, MI) link

Fact: Neil Cavuto (Fox  News) “Mr. Fields, would you have done this if Donald Trump were not elected president?
Mark Fields (CEO Ford Motor Company): “Yes, absolutely. I mean, we again, the cancellation of the plant in Mexico was just really looking at capacity requirements. And the investments here in Michigan are around building our high tech products here and making Flat Rock one of our most advanced manufacturing facilities that we’ll have going forward.”(1/3/17, Fox Business with Neil Cavuto) link

“We are not aware of any evidence that supports the voter fraud claims made by President Trump, but we are open to learning more about the Administration’s concerns…In the lead up to the November 2016 election, secretaries of state expressed their confidence in the systemic integrity of our election process as a bipartisan group, and they stand behind that statement today.” (1/24/17, statement released by National Association of Secretaries of State) link

No Illegal Votes Cast for Trump (2/26/17)
Trump says: “Of those [millions of illegal] votes cast, none of ’em come to me. None of ’em come to me. They would all be for the other side. None of ’em come to me…Those were Hillary votes.” (1/25/17, interview aired on ABC News) link
Fact: There have only been four documented cases of voter fraud for the November 8, 2016 election. (1) An Iowa woman was caught voting twice for Trump; (2) a Texas man claiming to be a Trump campaign employee tried to vote twice; (3) a Republican election judge in Illinois sent in an absentee ballot for her dead husband; and (4) a Florida county employee was caught marking absentee ballots for Republican candidates. (12/1/16, investigation by the Washington Post) link

Would Still Beat Clinton in Popular Vote
Trump says: “New polls out today are very good considering that much of the media is FAKE and almost always negative. Would still beat Hillary in popular vote. Trump Foundation Money (2/26/17)
Trump says: “I gave millions of dollars to DJT Foundation, raised or recieved millions more, ALL of which is given to charity, and media won’t report!” and “The DJT Foundation, unlike most foundations, never paid fees, rent, salaries or any expenses. 100% of money goes to wonderful charities!” (12/27/16, Twitter) link
Fact: “Trump used his foundation’s money to buy a six-foot-tall portrait of himself for $20,000, and had earlier bought another portrait for $10,000…He also used the foundation’s money to buy an autographed Tim Tebow Denver Broncos helmet for $12,000.” In addition, “Trump tapped his foundation to help settle lawsuits for his businesses. In one case, Palm Beach, Fla., agreed to forgive fines for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club if he made a $100,000 donation to a veterans’ charity. “They have no idea if it’s Russia or China or somebody. It could be somebody sitting in a bed some place. I mean they have no idea.”
(12/11/16, Fox News Sunday) link

“The CIA has concluded in a secret assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency…“It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,” said a senior U.S. official briefed on an intelligence presentation made to U.S. senators. “That’s the consensus view.”” (12/9/16, Washington Post) link

MISCELLANEOUS

Fact: “According to a report on re-engagement through July 2016, 122 of the 693 former detainees who were transferred out of Gitmo went back to terrorism. Bush oversaw the release of 532 detainees, and 113 of them — more than one-fifth — were confirmed to have re-engaged, according to the report. One of the things police and all of us need to do is to make sure we’re as safe as we possibly can be.” Trump takes Khan’s statement out of context to make it appear that the mayor said there is no reason to be alarmed by the terrorist attack. It is, however, obvious that Khan meant there is no reason to be alarmed by the increase in police presence. link

Murder Rate in the US (2/26/17)
Trump says: “And yet the murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years, right? Did you know that? Forty-seven years. I used to use that — I’d say that in a speech and everybody was surprised. Because the press doesn’t tell it like it is. It wasn’t to their advantage to say that. But the murder rate is the highest it’s been in, I guess, from 45 to 47 years.” (2/7/17, White House meeting with sheriffs) link
Fact: The 2015 homicide rate of 4.9 per 100,000 people is the sixth lowest homicide rate in the past 46 years The lower years were 2010-2014 and were at most lower by 0.4 per 100,000. “Homicide rates were considerably higher in the United States during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, but over the past 25 years, have fallen nearly continuously.” (Mises Institute, Mises Wire blog published 6/15/16) link1 link2 link3

Thousands of Arabs in NJ Cheering on 9/11 (2/26/17)
Trump says: “I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering…It did happen. I saw it…It was on television. I saw it…There were people that were cheering on the other side of New Jersey, where you have large Arab populations. They were cheering as the World Trade Center came down.”
Fact: “Trump says that he saw this with his own eyes on television and that it was well covered. But an extensive examination of news clips from that period turns up nothing. There were some reports of celebrations overseas, in Muslim countries, but nothing that we can find involving the Arab populations of New Jersey except for unconfirmed reports…The Newark Star-Ledger conducted an exhaustive inquiry and while it found scattered reports of celebrations, it determined that ‘Trump’s broad assertion that thousands of people cheered to be baseless.'” link
